By default, Cygwin does not include the improved version of vi, and this results in
~/.vimrc being ignored. To create a custom configuration file, you have two options:
- Store your vi configuration settings in
- Install Vim via setup.exe (see note below).
For option 2, you will have to launch vi with the Vim command or add an alias to ~/.profile, ~/.bashrc, ~/.zshrc, etc. like so:
echo "alias vi=vim" >> ~/.bashrc
