The above title is incorrect due to limitations in the Wiki software. The correct title is:
User:Tonymec/keymap/russian-phonetic_utf-8.vim

This is a keymap for Russian based on the sounds (not the locations) on the letters. It suits me (even with the heavy use of percent and colon as "dead keys", also = for the "hard sign"), it might not suit you. If this keymap doesn't suit you, modify it or look elsewhere, but don't come weep in my jacket. No warranty, no reimbursements. I've also included some characters which I've found useful for bilingual French-Russian text.

The code is abundantly commented so you'll easily find what to type for every character included.

Note that in ordinary Russian text, ë is usually written e, and that the acute accent (stress mark) is usually omitted except in dictionaries, teaching books, or to avoid ambiguities, e.g. "у белых есть большая выгода" «White has a big advantage» vs. "у белых есть бо́льшая выгода" «White has a bigger advantage». (And BTW that accent should be over the o, on my machine Konqueror does it right but SeaMonkey doesn't.)
