Hi Ojblass, welcome to the Vim Tips wiki! Thanks for your edit to the Toggle off the line-number when enter on-line help page. It's always great to see new contributors. This is an automated message; somebody may drop a message for you here in the next day or two with any comments or suggestions, but until then keep up the good work, and don't be afraid to be bold!

Please leave a message on my talk page if I can help with anything. -- JohnBeckett (Talk) 02:06, 31 March 2009

Worthwhile tipsEdit

Thanks for your comment on VimTip33. I hope you'll make more contributions so I would like to mention a couple of points. First, we follow the Wikipedia style of using using "Titles like this" (not "Titles Like This"); see the title guidelines. Second, we have a lot of old tips that were imported from the tips site (where tips could never be edited). Frankly, we would be better off if many of them were deleted: some (like this one) are obsolete and just confuse current users; some are misguided; some are not very worthwhile. In this case, it would be better to insert a line at the top of the tip, consisting of {{delete|Obsolete information}} which would recommend the tip for deletion, with Obsolete information as the text shown for the reason. I'm just mentioning this because IMHO it is not worth taking the time to clean up or rename tips like this one. JohnBeckett 03:48, 31 March 2009 (UTC)

Just to clarify in case it isn't clear, using {{delete}} will not delete the tip automatically, so you won't need to worry about that. Only admins can do that. Using {{delete}} will just add this page to the Category:Candidates for deletion, which are all reviewed and discussed before deleting. John, I, or another user will no doubt pick up on the deletion recommendation fairly soon after you add it and argue against it if we feel it should be kept.

Anyway, you picked up on our one real exception to the be bold philosophy...thanks for not just moving the page on your own! Page moves are a bit of a bigger change, because they mess up bookmarks, etc., and we tend to discuss a page rename before going and doing it.
