Willkommen, bienvenue, welcome, welkomEdit

Welcome to the Vim tips wiki! We hope you can make continuing contributions of articles and/or discussion and other improvements.

If you are new to Wikia or wikis in general, be sure to visit the "Community portal" for an outline of some of the main parts of the site and a link to pages that tell you how to edit.

Do keep an eye on the "recent changes" page, where all edits and their authors (anonymous or signed-in) are listed. Bookmark it, maybe. (And help delete spam - unpleasant but a fact of life.)

If you want to get involved, check out Project:Policy and if you like, join the mailing list.

Hi Sridharv, Thanks for your "Read/write pdf files" new tip. You might like to create your user page (can be very simple, perhaps just say how long you've used Vim – see Special:Listusers for some ideas). You are welcome to put any to-do or other notes related to Vim or the wiki under your user page. --JohnBeckett 01:00, 24 March 2008 (UTC)

We plan to merge your PDF tipEdit

If you view your proposed new tip "Read/write pdf files" you will see a link to the March new tips discussion. Current opinion is that the new tip should be merged into the previous tip because the two cover essentially the same material. I haven't tried the tips, but it seems that the new tip has more functionality. Perhaps its content should replace that in the old tip? If it is really feasible to use Vim to write to a PDF, then perhaps we should rename the old tip as well.

I'm just letting you know that whereas we're grateful to get new information, we feel that having too many tips is confusing for readers. It's much better to consolidate related information into one tip. --JohnBeckett 11:34, 7 May 2008 (UTC)

Hi John, Consolidating the tips does makes sense. They can be merged and that would be better for the end user too.

Thanks for your reply Sridharv – some pretty sensible people are using Vim apparently! I don't know enough about the topic of the two tips to do a proper job of merging them, so I have simply copied your text to the top of the old tip (after a short introduction), and added a todo note listing what I hope someone else will do. It would be great if you would review VimTip1356 and attend to the outstanding matters. Please delete any todo item that you think you've fixed, and feel free to edit any of the text, including my introduction. If you are reasonably confident that the resulting tip works, please remove the {{review}} line at the top.

Thanks --JohnBeckett 23:42, 7 May 2008 (UTC)

I replied to your new message on my talk page. --JohnBeckett 04:34, 20 May 2008 (UTC)
