New tips December 2010 PreviousNext

For each proposed new tip:

  • Is it worth keeping as a separate tip?
  • Should it be merged into an existing tip? Which?
  • If it should be kept, is it ready for release? Which points need fixing? Should it be renamed?

Please edit this page (not the talk page) in the appropriate section below the following table.
Alternatively, comments can be posted on the mailing list.

Proposed new tip Current consensus
Create numbered list Merged to VimTip65
Do not auto-add a newline at EOF Merged to VimTip1369
Prevent the cursor from jumping around when pressing "V" for visual mode Merged to VimTip22

Please add your comment (sign with ~~~~) below the appropriate heading. Use ---- between comments.

Create numbered list

Merge to VimTip65 as suggested in comments. --Fritzophrenic 04:47, July 8, 2011 (UTC)

Do not auto-add a newline at EOF

"Merge" to VimTip1369. The script in the comments section is interesting, but I raised some concerns about it which have not been addressed, and it offers nothing over the script in VimTip1369, so can probably be deleted. --Fritzophrenic 04:43, July 8, 2011 (UTC)

Prevent the cursor from jumping around when pressing "V" for visual mode

I don't think this tip should remain on its own merits, this seems like a rather silly typo to make and the only real take-away message is "if you sometimes hit one key when you meant another, you can map the accidental keypress to the intended keypress". I have something similar, mapping <F1> to <Esc>.

I can't think of a good place to merge it. Perhaps merge to VimTip22 and add a new section for mappings as opposed to the ex command typos already covered? --Fritzophrenic 05:00, July 8, 2011 (UTC)
